Working As A Team

This week in my coding class/bootcamp we were tasked with working as teams on a project. Each group consisted of 6 members and had a different task, my team was tasked with building an online platform for an interior designing company and we each had a different task to do in order to achieve our goal.  I was the graphics designer and this experience has taught me a lot which I would like to share with you in terms of questions.

What personal challenges did you experience in the role you were assigned?

• The biggest personal challenge that I experienced was the lack of confidence in myself. I was not sure if I would do a perfect job with the task I was given.
• The other challenge that I faced was prioritizing my work, I had a hard time balancing between working on the group project and my personal work.

What strengths did you experience in the role you were assigned?

• Working on a project as a team was not so hard because I have had such an experience. Working in a newsroom requires teamwork and I have had the chance to do so for over 3 years.

• I knew how to go about certain tasks, in the course of doing my job as a graphics designer, I was required to use certain tools to build the mock up online platform for our client. This was not so hard for me because I had an idea  on what to do.

What were the top 3 challenges you experienced with your team?

• Working as a team comes with some challenges and our team had a few of those, we had different tasks but at the same time we had different ideas on how to go about the project. This led to time wastage.
• Since we each had different tasks but in a way influenced each other, this slowed down some members on the team because they had to wait up for others to finish up their tasks in order to do their work. For example the lead developer had to wait for me the graphics designer.

What would you improve upon moving forward?

• The first thing I want to change is the confidence in myself, I might not know how to go about everything but I want to be confident about what I can do.
• I also want to better myself in tasks that are challenging for me so as to be ready for any task I Am given.
• The last thing i want to work on is time management, I would like to pick up on the pace on how I carry out the tasks.

Lastly, what was something you learned about working with a team

• I have learnt that communication is one of the most vital things when working as a team. When team members listen to each other, a lot of tasks are done because they are able to share ideas that help build the project.
• Honoring deadlines is another factor that keeps the project moving. When each team member does their share of the work in time, everything goes on smoothly.

In conclusion, working as a team is something that I enjoy because it makes me grow as a team player and if the team is well coordinated,  the tasks are completed in time.
